Latino Comedy Project!!
So the Video (300 Mexicans) that I posted not to long ago was actually done by the Latino Comedy Project. The LCD is raved to be one of the funniest sketch comedy troupe. They have worked with Carlos Mencia, Fred Willard, Gabriel Iglesias, Pablo Francisco and Rob Corddry of "The Daily Show," among others. They also produce clothing, an example that i saw was a maternity shirt that said Anchor baby and under that a large number. This was placed right at the belly. So i was wondering that LCD is projecting our culture to millions of people from a comedic standpoint. Do you think this hurts or helps the community? I am not going to lie, i myself found 300 to be somewhat rude and tasteless but I have seen other videos and comedians do it in a way where its not offensive so I am undecided on the matter. What are your thoughts of this? Feel free to take a look at their website. http://youtube.com/user/LatinoComedyProject

I'm not sure what LCP means by "multicultural satire" because many of those images in the video are frankly very stereotypical and because the majority of audiences do not get "satire" they end consuming these images of immigrant hordes crossing the border. We need to remember the reasons that Dave Chapelle gave for leaving his very popular show?
He "satire" show was no longer funny when he realized that he was reinforcing stereotypes about black people, his show had now become a new blackface minstrelsy show.
I recommend that you view his interview in Bravo's Actors Studio.

I agree that the images portrayed in these "satirical" videos are being absorbed by the audience as some sort of truth. We see this kind of representation in many races. Asian Americans are portrayed as an "exotic" race where everyone has some sort of martial arts.
So, where do you draw the line when these satires actually become the actual representative of a group of people?
Miggzz,
Yeah...well when I saw the video I didn't think that it was very funny. I mean a lot of people cross the border and risk their lives for a better life. I don't think that making fun of that is very cool. It is making fun of all of us saying that we all crossed like that. Making a joke from something that will hurt others isn't funny and a lot of comedians praise on others pains and suffereings. I personally hate Carlos Mencia, I think he is one of the worst comedians I've heard in a long time. Gabriel Iglesias is hilarious though. Comedians should focus on how they are portraying all of becuase whether they want to or no they do. There are people that make it think that it is alright to make fun of Latinos from what they see on TV which isn't right. I wouldn't do it other people and therefore they shouldn't do it to us!
I think that just because it was created by Latinodoesnt make it right. I personally do not like Carlos Mencia because he goes over and beyond with the racial slures and the language he uses towards latinos mexicans particularly. I think these comedians could have found a better way to make it more acceptable, they are atalented and I am sure they could have come up with something better.
